It is time to part ways with Andy and Candy. They are making their way back to Pennsylvania and we are…well, we don’t have a specific destination in mind, so we are going to just drive and see where we end up.
We are pretty close to Colorado so we swing up to Cortez, Colorado and spend a couple of nights in an American Legion camping area. Can you guess why we’re in Colorado? Yeah, I thought so.
Our friend Warren’s daughter has a cabin in New Mexico that she said we could park at if we wanted. We decide why not? Off to New Mexico!
We are staying in the Roadrunner campground not too far from the cabin. It just so happens there are a couple of campgrounds named Roadrunner. Why is this significant? Because we are having a heck of a time getting a ride to the Buffalo Thunder Casino. The casino has shuttle service to the different campgrounds. You can see the issue.
Finally, they understand what campground we are at and we get to the casino. We are not big gamblers but they have several restaurants and supper is what we’re looking for. We decide on the Iguana Cantina.
It was eh. Not what we are used to finding at casinos as far as quality of food but our bellies are full. We wander around looking at the artwork. It is amazing how big buffalo really are when you get up close to them.
The Deer Dancer statue is pretty impressive as well.
On our way back to the campground our driver tells us that the casino will be closing on Monday, due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Seems we made it just in time. He also tells us the road we need to take to the cabin we thought we could park at, could be a little tricky this time of year because of snow.
Snow? Okay, we need a new plan.
