Anchorage, Alaska

Good morning from the top of the world. Okay, not exactly “the top” but the closest we have ever been. Coming to Alaska is on both of our bucket lists but we never thought it would happen this soon. To be fair, we are here because of John’s job, but still—it’s ALASKA!!

Our flight to Alaska, once we got on the plane, was uneventful but the terrain we crossed was surprising. Wyoming mountains were clear of snow and we could even see roads running the valleys going around the mountains.

As we fly over mid to upper Canada the peaks are snow covered again.

The terrain as we come into Alaska (at 10:15 p.m.) surprises us. It is clear of snow and there are no mountains. I don’t know why I expected to see snow covered mountains, Anchorage is a coastal town and if you’ve ever been to the ocean, you know how flat the areas are.

I’m not surprised by the seagulls around the town, but I am surprised that they land and perch in the small field next to our hotel.

John usually worries about me feeling trapped or cooped up while he’s off working and getting out and about. We have a suite and there is a nice kitchenette with a DISHWASHER!!! Woo-hoo! Haven’t had one of those since we started RV’ing. I can’t wait to try it out. We went grocery shopping yesterday so I’m well-stocked with food and drink.

As you can see I also have a nice kitchen island that is making a perfect office space for me. I’ve got a nice couch for relaxing and a nice TV with Direct TV.

The king-size bed is perfect for napping, and the TV swivels so I can lounge while I watch.

And if I pretend the buildings aren’t there, I can say I have a beautiful view of the mountains of the Chugach State Park.

We are anxious to get out exploring. Tomorrow, Saturday, June 20 is the summer solstice. The sun will be up for 24 hours. Thank goodness the blinds on the windows are room darkening.

Chat me up peeps! We love to hear from you.
