Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Day 2

It is about 7:30 am and we are ready to continue our journey. John said he slept well and is sure our bed is going to work out. I however, did not sleep well because of John’s snoring. After a look at the map and a little discussion we have decided we are going to drive all the way to South Dakota, no matter how late it gets.  With the air-mattress in the back of the truck we can always take turns driving and sleeping.

As the day wears on, the sun is swinging around and is now beating in the driver’s side window and heating up John’s “sensitive” area. He tries pointing the vents down towards his lap but he said it is making his bellybutton cold. Hmm, what to do?

We decide a towel in the window would work to block the sun. As we get going again, it is clear he left too much towel sticking out of the window and it is making a horribly loud noise. He thinks he can just inch the window down a bit and pull the towel part way in. We are traveling on the highway at about 75 mph. The window doesn’t come down a little bit, it comes down a lot and sucks the towel out the window. We laugh about what will eventually become “The towel incident” for at least a hundred miles.

We arrive in Sioux Falls, SD and it is about 102 degrees. Wow. We spend some time looking around and find the city park.

John likes the old buildings that are left over from a different time.

I love the pink and green rocks and the cool waterfall.

What neither of us like is the odd smell coming from the water.  Yuck!  But would be cool though to have a central park like this.

We are both hungry so we find a restaurant and have some supper. The plan is to stay at a hotel, log cabin themed, in Chamberlin.  No we don’t have reservations anywhere, we are taking things as they come.  However, the $45 a night hotel is completely booked because of a Corvette, car show, something or other convention.  In fact, EVERYTHING in Chamberlin is booked and John is getting testy.  We end up at a Holiday Express, which is $120 a night.  At this point we don’t care, it is a bed and a shower, with breakfast included, and we are tired.
