Coming Home Mama

Alaska is awesome, no doubt about it, but we are glad to be back in the lower 48. We are staying at our actual “home” in South Dakota, The Red Barn RV Park. We are only going to be here for a couple of days before heading east. John needs time to go over the RV and make sure everything is in order after our month away.

There is a Farmers Market on Saturdays in the Sioux Falls city park and what a city park it is. So we are going to wander around for a while.

Back in April 2020 John’s mom, Peggy, was diagnosed with endometrial cancer, stage 4, with it having metastasized into her lungs. She decided to go the chemo route in order to shrink the cancer enough that a hysterectomy can be performed.

Needless to say, the treatments are not going well for her. After her first one she ended up needing a pacemaker and she lost all her hair. Devastating to a woman who ALWAYS looked her best. At 80 years old, the chemo took its toll on her body and she was exhausted for days after the treatment.

After the second treatment it was very clear that she was going to need someone to help care for her. Though her husband Verne is there with her, he has Alzheimer’s and isn’t able to support her the way she needs.

John and I have made the decision to put our life-on-the-road to the side, travel back to Pennsylvania, and take care of his mom for as long as necessary.

No worries, life on the open road will be there waiting for us on the other side of this chapter of our lives. We’re coming home to you mama.
