Life on the road isn’t always a carefree ride through the countryside, sometimes there are a few big bumps along the way. This seems to be our year for rough going. We are on our move from Tonopah, Nevada to Yerington, Nevada, and John is sure the engine of the RV sounds louder. We find a place to pull over and upon inspection he notices the muffler has come loose. We are not far from our destination so he feels we can continue on and he will fix it once we are parked.
Well, not five miles later all the lights on the dashboard come on and the brakes lock up. He manages to get us off the road and in a safe place to do some trouble shooting.
It seems as though where the muffler was loose it was allowing hot exhaust to blow on the brake lines and melted a section of it.
On go the “play clothes” and out comes the tool box. The first thing is to fix the muffler. The lip of the muffler connection has rusted away so he cuts off the bad parts.
Meanwhile, I’m enjoying the view. And to think, we were considering camping at the lake. Hmm. Perhaps we should have.
The dogs are chilling inside. This is a very busy highway. Jake is ready to help John in case he needs any buttons pushed. He is good at turning the lights on.
An hour later the muffler is back on, the brake line is fixed and we are on our way to Yerington, NV.
We are staying one night at the Sage Crest Drive-in. It is a drive-in movie theater that was abandoned in the 1980’s and now belongs to BLM.
I don’t know that I would want to spend more than an overnight, but our cell and internet service is good, it’s quiet, and there is plenty of room to let the dogs run off their energy.
Sorry to hear the muffler-break issue. Nice to have “Mechanic John” to sort-out repairs.
