We have finally parted ways with Andy and Candy. They are heading east towards home and we are continuing west. It has been an AMAZING six months of traveling and sightseeing together.

John has a new contract starting in Tacoma, Washington, so we are going to coddiewomple our way in that direction. Our plan is to check off some bucket list items along the way. First up is a visit to Area 51. Now. you really can’t get near anything of importance, so I guess it is more us being able to say, “We were there!”  But check out the map below. How cool is this. The government may claim their aren’t aliens but someone does. The name of the highway we are on is the Extraterrestrial Highway. We are getting a few laughs out of the that. The dark gray shading is Area 51 and we are at the top of it just outside of Tonopah. We are boondocking at the circled picnic table.

The Extraterrestrial Highway isn’t busy and should be pretty quiet overnight. At least we are hoping so as the overnight area is not far from it. But the spot is flat and each site has its own tree! How cute. The view isn’t bad either. Plains stretch out far and bump up against the mountains. There is room for maybe six or seven campers at this spot but currently there are only two of us. Our favorite things about boondocking are finding cool spots, with very few people, and no rules other than the Golden Rules. Who knew how important what I learned in kindergarten would come in so handy.

We have been chasing Spring since we left Yuma, Arizona in March. Though our allergies are bothering us a little, I’m enjoying all the wildflowers that are blooming. The sun in the western states is brutal and by early summer all the wildflowers will be gone, dried and burned right along with the grasses. This spider flower has a bug but not a spider. Hmm.

A mini garden scape. Tree, grass, rock flowers.

I don’t like broom weed. These flowers are sticking to the dogs fur like velcro!

John has the chairs out so we can sit and watch for aliens tonight. I better grab some blankets. Desert nights are as cold as the days are hot.
