With the weather as bad as it has been this season we haven’t ventured out in the woods as much as we like to, but this weekend has been beautiful. We thought we owed the dogs a good stretch too, especially after the trama of fireworks all around them last night. Since we haven’t been going out regularly John picked out an easy 4 mile or so hike on one of our farvorite trails, the Old Logger’s Path.
We started at , which is one of our favorite napping spots when we are out sight-seeing in the area. At around , we hopped on to a gas line that connected us to the Crandalltown Trail. This trail took us down to Pleasant Stream Rd about .3 of a mile from the jeep.
We didn’t see any wildlife but the dogs did startle a thru-hiker. He was trying to do the whole trail in a couple of days. He was not from around the area so we chatted with him a while and gave him another trail to check out, The Black Forest Trail. He thanked us for the information and then headed on his way.
Wouldn’t you know it…we made it the whole way through the hike with minimal mud on the dogs. About 20 feet from exiting the trail was a puddle that turned out to be almost belly high on the dogs and it was MUDDY MUDDY water!!! AAAHHH! Not again! Luckily we were parked next to a stream and we were able to take them down to wash off.
As I sit here writing this, I’m finding I’m not sore at all. We will see how things go tomorrow for me, however.
