Jim wants to scope out some other fishing spots for John and him. Custer State Park has a multitude of lakes and fish-able streams. Deer Lake is near Flag Mountain where there is an abandoned fire tower or lookout or something, so we are going to turn this into an event.
I kind of like going to visit fire towers or at least the area around the towers because the views tend to be spectacular. And this one does not disappoint.
All the way around, 360 degrees the views are amazing. I can feel my eyes stretching and relaxing as I look to the horizon. It feels good.
Back in the day, before becoming conditioned as a society to the Internet and the constant bombardment of some sort of media, this would have been a good gi, just watching for fires and enjoying the view.
I could handle waking up to this everyday, in the short term. Like for a summer.
There is even an old latrine for long-term habitation of the site. I didn’t take pictures of the inside because, well, who wants to see a poopy-pit?
Not Sadie, not Eli, not Jake seem to have any fear of heights or falling.
They are bounding all over the place, walking right up to edges and looking down. They are giving us humans heart palpitations.
Jake pops his head up over one of the side walls to get a better look at things.
Well, now they all want to try out the wall for a better look. Sadie hops up, so I call Jim and Becky over to get a family portrait with an awesome backdrop.
Now Eli wants a turn.
Sadie hops off and Eli takes her place.
All right, now that everyone has had their photo ops , it is time to go find a fishing spot for the guys. Jim likes trout fishing so we head for a walk-in fishing stream near Deer Lake. Wow. Just wow. I think they will enjoy a morning of fishing in this stream even if they don’t catch anything.
The dogs are either tired, or fresh, clean streams are not as exciting to play in as dirty, smelly mud puddles.
