Traditionally Friday nights we have pizza for supper. Tonight, however, the campground where we are staying is hosting a catfish fry and John wants to go. So we decided to have pizza for lunch instead. We headed to Bandera, a town about 20 minutes or so away to find a local pizza shop.
It was a beautifully sunny day about 74 degrees. We found a small park with public restrooms a fountain (that wasn’t on) and trees surrounded by park benches.
The town’s claim to fame is “Cowboy Capital of the World”. It was a staging area for the last great cattle drives of the late 1800’s and there is a monument in the park depicting the cattle drive route. Along the route from Bandera to Nebraska are white painted post marking the cattle drive trail.
Behind the park was a pizza shop, the Cowboy Capital Pizza Company. We just had to go there for our pizza.
We talked with the owner for a while and she told us about some activities on Saturday, like a gunfight reenactment, and some local live bands that would be playing in town. We are coming back tomorrow.
