John’s a Rockhound

I’ve been hoping that John was going to be able to find some sort of a hobby, besides his gun enthusiasm, that he can do to occupy his time when we aren’t hiking, traveling or fixing the RV. I read and crochet in my downtime, or at least I try….he stares at me, or naps.

This area of New Mexico has a lot of unique rock formations. Close to the Pecos river, there are quartz crystals called Pecos Diamonds. Quartz crystals are relatively common in evaporative areas around the world, but those found close to the Pecos River are unique in size and coloring.

The rangers and the camp host pointed him to the right spots, gave him some information and off he went. He had a good time and found some cool rocks. He will be sending them to Tiff for her to try and make some jewelry out of them.

He thinks this is a hobby he could get into. So we bought a couple of books on rocks, minerals, and gems, and printed some articles off of the internet. He needs a little hammer and a few other minor supplies and he will well equipped.

Aaaaah, finally.

Chat me up peeps! We love to hear from you.
