There isn’t much to say about this state park. Basically it is here because there is a dam that created a lake that people can fish in and boat on. Brantley Wildlife area is part of the park as well. The park is very well maintained and quiet. BUT don’t eat the fish, they are contaminated with DDT…hmm.
Here at the park they hold a “Go Fly a Kite” event in spring, though I think they could hold it at any time as the wind hasn’t stopped blowing the whole time we have been here.
This hasn’t been our favorite area so far, as there isn’t much to do close to the camp. Carol and Tim, friends we made in Roswell, warned us that there isn’t much to see down here and they are right. I wanted to see Carlsbad Caverns and John thought what the heck we would spend some time checking the area out.
We explored the BLM lands surrounding the State Park and drove up into a mountainous area close to the Lincoln National Forest.
Since we were this close we decided to drive the 60 some miles into Lincoln National Forest to see Sitting Bull Falls. However it was not open the day we were there, but the view was nice.
It is doubtful we will come back to this area, but still, I’m glad we came.
