Holiday Visitors from the South

Kevin and Darlene

My brother, his girlfriend and her 2 daughters traveled from North Carolina up to Pennsylvania to spend a few days with us over the New Years holiday.

Being from the Carolina’s the girls hadn’t really been around a lot of snow. Mother Nature helped us out by giving us a few inches during their visit.

Kevin and Darlene stayed with our parents and Darlene’s girls stayed with us. We have fixed Brittany’s old room into a guest bedroom / yoga room so the girls would have some privacy. Their new puppy Star, a lab / aussie mix, stayed with us as well.

Darlene’s oldest daughter was turning 16 and Darlene wanted to do something special for her. So on New Year’s eve, we had a winter bonfire, roasted marshmellows, built a snowman, and had some homemade hot chocolate, with real milk.

The next day, after we ate dinner, we took the girls and all three dogs geocaching at Rider Park. It was about 20 degrees and windy, but the girls were real troopers. I took additional clothes and blankets along on the hike, as they did not have warm clothes like Northern kids do. Good thing I did too, one of them did get cold, so we dressed her up warmer.

They definitely enjoyed the hike and the geocaching. Star had an absolute blast in the snow, racing around with our two dogs. Star had icicles hanging from her chin and belly, but didn’t seem to mind until we crawled in the truck to come home, then she started shivering. We wrapped her up in a blanket to warm her up, and off to sleep she went.

That night we got in the hot tube, and that was just a perfect ending for our day and their trip to Pennsylvania.

Chat me up peeps! We love to hear from you.
