We’ve all seen mud. We and our jeep friends in PA love to play in it. However it takes on a whole new meaning here in South Dakota. They call their mud “Gumbo”.
The soil is a kind of clay and it is slippery like ice/snow when wet. It sticks to EVERYTHING and doesn’t wash off easily. Once it is dry, it is like concrete, I couldn’t kick this mud off of the tire guard.
If you have dust on your car and it rains, it doesn’t wash it off, it slimes the car.
After the sun comes out and starts drying the soil it cracks and becomes flakey.
We took Sophie out for a walk after a rain and though it was just a quick thunder shower the ground got a little soupy. It caked up on our boots and in Sophie’s paws.
She would stop and periodically and get the mud out between her toes herself, but at one point she gave up and just laid down. We cleaned the mud that was collecting in her paws and nails and then she took off running, bouncing like a puppy! Too funny for us.
I however, still haven’t gotten all of the mud off of my boots.
