By the time we finished at Old Faithful we were starving. The parking lot was a bit crowded so we decided to head to the next geyser area to have our lunch in the hopes it would be less hectic. It was.
Black sand is derived from black volcanic glass or obsidian and as the back drop of of the area the colors looked more intense but do not look as spectacular in our pictures.
Emerald Pool was my favorite. It looked much more green in person.
Our next stop was Biscuit Basin. In 1959 Sapphire pool erupted and destroyed all the “mineral biscuits”. Again, not sure it is a good idea to name things specifically in Yellowstone.
Sapphire Pool however, still reflects its name. Isn’t it GORGEOUS!!!!????
Black Opal Pool is no longer black but wow, what a beautiful blue. Amazing what a little temperature change can mean. The rise in temp killed all of the brown and green thermophiles that once covered this pool and gave it its name.
The area around Shell Spring seemed alien-like and interesting all at the same time.
Weird huh?
Clouds have been gathering, thunder has been rumbling, and now it is starting to rain. Time to go home.
You two are having so much fun as we are following your exploits. Truly living the life….good on ya!
