New Year’s day in Pennsylvania can be, sunny, cold, and/or windy. Today we had all three, but thankfully no ice on the river.
Now why would no ice on the river seem so important? Well that is because for several years before John and I hit the road his sister Julie and husband Bill have hosted a winter kayak trip.
Yep. I said kayak trip.
Today the wind was high and the water on the river rough and white capped. Only John and his two sister’s Julie and Deanne were brave enough to actually go out on the water.
Just look at those crazy kids!!
Meanwhile the rest of us “smart” people hung out around the campfire.
And the picnic table full of food!
At the end of the day as the sun was starting to go down, it was decided to burn the old wicker chair that after a summer by the river was getting a bit rough.
As the chair was burning, we had a collective thought that perhaps instead of a kayak trip maybe just a picnic and campfire would be a better New Year’s day tradition.
And if we all have a good year maybe we will add burning a chair to the tradition.
