We took the downstairs bedroom and turned that into the new bathroom. It looked like at one time the bedroom might have been used for something else, based on the flooring and the light fixtures. There wasn’t a door on the room but the whole wall from in the room out the hallway to where the stairway to go up stairs was a closet including a built in over/under washer and drier.
Before
In the first picture you can see the bulk of the room. In the second picture you can see the long closet and that at this point we had removed the doors. The back wall to the towards the center-right of the picture will be removed and a new wall constructed where the doorway for the bathroom will go.
During
In the first picture you can see that we have created the doorway and roughed in where the custom medicine cabinet and cabinet over the toilet will go. You can see in the second picture John built a support wall on the right that holds the plumbing for the shower. Finally he built the wall that would complete the closet opening. By now we had moved the washer and drier from here into the soon to be laundry room.
After
Paul and John built the custom medicine and over toilet cabinets, but we bought the vanity.
John also made the wooden plate behind the over sink light fixture. We added plenty of shelves in the closet, leaving room for our small freezer.
The new door way turned out as good as expected as well as the tub area. For the floor we found a nice tile with grays, browns and whites which should go with a variety of wall colors.
