All work and no play make for very boring Dreeses. So after a long week of construction and studying it is off to the woods for us.
We decided to check out the DuPont State Recreational Forest, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina.
It has a variety of habitats such as Upland Oak forests, cove forests, granite domes, riparian areas, mountain bogs, small wildlife openings, lakes, streams and the Little River. So why am I sharing all of this information? Turns out that parts of “The Hunger Games” and “The Last of the Mohicans” (and other movies apparently) were shot in this forest. Now you can understand why.
There are 80 miles of roads and hiking trails shared by hikers, bikers and horses and there were plenty of all.
We were interested in trails that went by the waterfalls. The First picture is of Triple Falls and the 2nd is of High Falls, both were the movie “The Hunger Games”.
Now don’t you want to watch Hunger Games again to see if you can spot the waterfalls?
Where there are waterfalls there are rivers, in this case The Little River.
The park was beautiful, hard to convey in a few pictures though, so you are just going to have to come visit it yourself sometime.
We spent the entire day walking around and enjoying our downtime. We packed a lunch and ate at a pavilion that gave us a decent view of Triple Falls.
Really, you need to get out and explore America….she sure is beautiful.
