Updating Britta’s Kitchen

For having once said that I was done painting, I seem to be doing a lot of it lately.

Britta wanted to remove the wallpaper from the kitchen walls and paint the whole kitchen in her theme colors: sunflower.

Us girls thought we could do this WHOLE project by ourselves.

My son-in-law Josh told us about a spray that you use to remove wallpaper and that it worked well. In our case too well.

The walls were made out of some sort of pressed paperboard or something and not only did the spray dissolve the wallpaper it also was dissolving the actual wall in places. With large gouges in the wall we going to have to spackle.

I gave Britta a little lesson and turned her loose with knife and trough. Remember, we think we can do this by ourselves….John comes in to see how we are doing in decides, some of the areas need to be dry walled over.

Britta and I were feeling a little overwhelmed by the prospect of having to figure out how to cut and hang dry wall, but John and Zane jump right in and got the drywall installed so we could keep spackling.

Jokingly (I think) Zane commented about how when us girls say we have a project we are going to do, the men somehow get roped into helping. John told him “welcome to the rest of your life”.

Britta kept spackling as John and Zane got the drywall up. Now our project that was supposed to take a couple of days was going to take at least a week to finish.

After the spackling dried (which Zane helped finish) it was finally time to paint.

Once the doors for the cabinets were dry John got roped in to helping put them back on along with the hardware and hanging some of the decorations.

It came out really cute. It is bright and sunny and it makes you feel happy just to walk in the kitchen.

Britta and I really did intend to do the whole project ourselves, but we were exceedingly happy the guys helped us out.

Chat me up peeps! We love to hear from you.
