When we arrived in PA on Dec 22nd, it was a comfortable 70 degrees. Today, Jan 1, 2016 it is in the 30’s and a steady North wind is blowing.
In the past, our New Year’s day celebration included a wintry kayak trip. (Photo from Jan 1, 2010, Deanne, Jul, Wendy)
As we have aged, we have gained a bit of wisdom. Now we forego the kayak trip in favor of “The Burning of the Chair”. This tradition started in 2015. Since we fly home, packing bulky winter clothing is not something we do, so standing around a hot fire is better for us.
The event is held at Bill and Jul’s river lot. In addition to encouraging more people to show up, the non-water event also lets the younger generation participate in the New Year’s day celebration.
There is plenty of eating and drinking going on as we look back on 2015’s successes and failures.
As more guests arrive, anticipation of the main event grows.
Future dreams and plans are voiced in the hopes that the “Chair’ will hear and bestow good fortunes to the attendees.
At last it is time…..
The 2016 hopefuls.
Wow! With flames this intense we are sure that all will have a good year.
Apparently this is a 2 chair year!
To all of our family and friends, we wish you the best in 2016. God bless all.
