We are proud to announce the birth of our granddaughter Arya Dove-Candace Burk, born Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 7:40 am. She was 8 pounds 6 ounces, 20.5 inches long, with a 13 inch head.
It was a long 31 hours of labor including being sent home once from the hospital. Britta was admitted around 10 pm, Friday night with her support group in tow.
As the night wore on, the stress of the process and lack of sleep caught up to everyone. We took turns catching cat-naps.
Britta was hoping Dr. Donato would be delivering her last baby. He was only working one day the whole month of March and it happened to be Saint Patrick’s day, beginning at 7:00 am.
At 7:20 am, still dressed in street clothes, Dr. Donato breezed into the room announcing “You waited for me!” After a check of mom and baby, he quickly asked for a gown and prepared to welcome a brand new life into the world.
Britta was something of a rock star on the maternity floor as she successfully delivered her baby medication free. No epidural, no pain medicine, just breathing techniques, conviction, and a desire to give her daughter a clean start in life.
Within a half hour of birth Arya was nursing happily and mom and dad were gushing with love over their family’s new addition.
As for Nona Tess, G’ma Wendy and G’ma Candy, we were so proud of Britta and her strength to persevere.
