Not knowing what else to do in Cologne, we decided on a tour guided Hop-on Hop-off bus. It took us all through Cologne and gave us the history of the town and explained all the different structures and architecture. We hopped off a couple of times to see a sight or two. It was too hard to hard to take pictures through the bus windows but here are some of the highlights.
In the Cathedral square there is a sidewalk artist doing his thing.
There is a Chocolate Museum along our route so you KNOW we are stopping there for me!!!!! John and JF are being great sports about the whole thing.
They might even be enjoying themselves. Of course, being able to grab a beer at the festival going on out side of the Chocolate Museum may have something to do with it. Yeah, I got a hot chocolate, I mean come on, its a chocolate festival.
The museum is along the Rhine river and we got caught up in the vendors and FREE chocolate samples from EVERY vendor, we never did make it into the museum. The festival tents are setup on both sides of the river.
There are other vendors besides chocolate. There are fish and meat market guys and “real food” vendors. This spinning grill is pretty cool.
There is an observation type deck that gives us a great view of the the canal and surrounding buildings.
We can watch the barges go by too.
I love the old buildings and walkways by the Rhine
Next stop was the Flora House and Botanical Gardens. Okay, we really didn’t plan on coming to the gardens per say but I wanted to see the Sculpture Park.
Okay, when they said sculpture park, I was thinking these kinds of sculptures.
Instead we get this:
Oozing brains.
Fried Eggs.
Use your imagination.
The Alien Monument Epoch or something.
Creepy Ninja Rabbits.
Marble Cacti
There was a cool one that turned my world upside down.
All in all, a good day. We ate some good food, got our socks wowed off of us at the Cathedral and learned some history. A good trip.
